Romanian Cheese Donuts
Ingredients
- 400g of Romanian cottage cheese
- 250g of self raising flour
- Zest of one lemon
- 1 pack of vanilla
- A pinch of salt
- Oil to fry
- Sour cream
- 1 jar of sour cherry jam
- Icing sugar for decor
Instructions,
Prep Time: 10 minutes | Cook Time: 10 minutes | Resting Time: 30 minutes
- Step 1: Put the cottage cheese, flour, lemon zest, vanilla packet and the pinch of salt into one bowl and mix. This will form a dough which should have a sticky consistency.
- Step 2: Let it all rest at room temperature for half an hour.
- Step 3: Form the dough rings and balls by dusting your hands with flour and then moulding each shape by hand.
- Step 4: Put enough oil in the shallow pan and let it come to a high temperature.
- Step 5: Drop the rings first in the oil. Fry for two minutes on each side, until they become golden brown. Take out of the pan and place them on a plate which is covered with kitchen towel to absorb any addtional oil.
- Step 6: Repeat step five with the balls.
- Step 7: Serve hot, two on a plate, covered with sour cream, sour cherry jam and icing sugar.
